The Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged organizes online Mid-Autumn Festival and Confucius Day between 4-9 October 2020.


If it is the end of September and the beginning of October, then it is definitely Mid-autumn Festival and Confucius Day. Unlike former years, this year we organize our activities online. Drawing contests, quizzes, making handicrafts: they are all part of this not so common celebration. Of course, you cannot miss pur surprises and gifts. Zheng Dasheng – Chinese Movie Day


zheng_dashengOn 4 May 2019 (Saturday) at 6 p.m. Zheng Dasheng Chinese film director’s movie entitled „Bangzi Melody” (1 hour 40 minutes) will be screened at the Délvidék House in Szeged.


Film and theatre director Zheng Dasheng’ movie entitled „Bangzi Melody” (1 hour 40 minutes) will be screened in Chinese with Hungarian subtitle at Délvidék Ház in Szeged. Even Mr. Zheng will be attending the movie night after which he will be in the panel for discussion with the audience. The event is organized by SZTE Confucius Institute.

Chinese Lantern Festival at SZTE Confucius Institute


On the occasion of Chinese Lantern Festival, on 2 March 2018 (Friday), 2 p.m., SZTE Confucius Institute organizes an exciting new year’s program.


The opening ceremony is delivered by the performance of primary school students of SZTE Confucius Institute, after which the guest will be able to learn the techniques of Chinese knots, learn popular Chinese songs, make their own lanterns, play with shuttlecock as well as writing different kind of Chinese characters.

PandaPanda Day at Szeged Zoo!

 

On 28 May 2017 (Sunday) on the occasion of Children’s Day the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged organizes Panda Day starting from 10 a.m. at Szeged Zoo.


As in previous years, our team welcomes every children and parents to take part in such activities as panda mask painting, coloring, playing puzzle, Chinese knots and brain-teaser quiz at the Giraffe House of Szeged. Several presents and gifts are prepared to be taken away by adventurous guests.

Horváth Janisz„Playing with strokes – Chinese calligraphy” course in 2017 again with calligraphy master Janisz Horváth!

Warmly welcome everyone who is interested in the art of Chinese calligraphy. Our course starts on the 23rd of February. The class is conducted on every second Thursday at 5 p.m.


Janisz Horváth studied calligraphy at the Academy of Arts in Hangzhou and teaches the beauty of Chinese characters in Hungarian during this practice-oriented course.

Since bad weather draw near to us, we would like to warmly welcome everyone to our pleasant indoor activity that is Confucius Film Club which is to be held on 5 December 2016 (Monday) from 5 p.m.at Room V. at the Rector’s Office.

This time you could watch the film entitled “The Painted Veil”. The marriage of the middle-class doctor Walter Fane, and the upper-class, spoiled Kitty Garstin turns out to be a mistake. As Walter gets on a new post Kitty leaves behind her London life travels on to Shanghai where she feels in love to a vice consul. When Walter discovers his wife's infidelity, he seeks to punish her by threatening her to accompany him to a small village in a remote area of China. Their journey to this remote Chinese village and the horrors they undergo give reason and purpose to their lost believed relationship.

Also in this year, we will celebrate the Day of Confucius Institutes on 24th September (Saturday). At this time, the Szent-Györgyi Albert Agóra will take place to the event.


The programme contains two parts. First of all, the visitor can meet with the Chinese culture with playful contest from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. In this period, we will commemorade from Confucius’ s birthday. From 6 p.m. the guests can see our gala programme, where we can look through into a martial arts demonstration, we can see traditional Chinese dance, however, we can hear Mongolian throat singing accompanied by horse-head violin. The guest of honor will be pianist Zheng Wanyang, who tries to make the evening more special.

This fall, who are interested in Confucius Intstitute programmes, can meet with Mr Janisz Horváth calligrapher and teacher at Moholy-Nagy University of Arts. He qualified himself at Chinese Academy of Arts, Hangzhou. However, he is a graphic master and typographer as well.

Mr Horváth held his lectures in Hungarian language. His first debut in Szeged, will on 20th September (Thuesday), at 5 p.m. in Rector’s Office, room 5.

Chinese Film Week in Belvárosi Cinema

,,The Founding of a Republic” is a famous Chinese movie about the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. The movie was displayed in the cinemas in 2009. The proclamation of the People’s Republic of China was in 1949. 10. 01. During the movie night we would like to commemorate that event and the Chinese National Day as well. After the movie, the Hungarian director of the Confucius Institute Richárd Mohr and a docent from the University of Szeged Dr. Péter Ákos Ferwagner will talk about the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Chinese Spring Festival at Agora


TavaszváróChinese New Year or Moon Year (Chinese: Chunjie, „Spring Festival”) is the biggest celebration for 1/4 of the world’s population. The time of the Spring festival – similarly to our Eastern – changes year by year. Thanks to the event organized by SZTE Confucius Institute guests can learn more about this holiday on Sunday afternoon in Szeged.


On the one hand Spring Festival is the beginning of spring and on the other hand is the beginning of a new year and for this reason it has two purposes. Firstly, it is a good reason for the family to gather together and give presents to each other and to extend their good wishes. Secondly, this is the time for saying farewell to the old year, get rid of its nuisances and also try to ensure good luck for the forthcoming new year as well. The Year of the Goat starts from the 19th of February. For this reason, the Confucius Institute of the University of Szeged organizes a Spring Festival on 15 February, Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Szent-Györgyi Albert Agora.


At the event the guests can participate in a great variety of programs. The program includes lion dance, calligraphy exhibition and show, martial arts show and different kind of skillful games. Guest may also try traditional Chinese matrimonial dresses, they can try calligraphy as well by their own, they can learn some Chinese words, and also they can taste traditional Chinese foods as well. Moreover, the organizers try to introduce China by broadcasting short films about China.


On the event, a multimedia device will be given away as a present to the city of Szeged by SZTE Confucius Institute, and the device will be set in the Agora. The device will be given to Orbán Hedvig director of Agora and Szabó Sándor representative of the Hungarian Parliament by Dr. Ujhelyi István representative of the European Parliament, president of SZTE Confucius Institute and Dr. Cao Hang Chinese director of SZTE Confucius Institute.

The SZTE Confucius Institute welcomes everyone with an interesting program again on 27 January the Rector’s Office Assembly Hall at 5 p.m.

 

Together with the cooperation of Public Coffee House, Confucius Tea House was organized with a great success in December. The program series continues on 27 January at 5 p.m. at the Rector’s Office Assembly Hall. Special traditional Chinese teas are going to be served during the lecture the topic of which is “Chinese dream – where does China come and where does it go”. Our next guest is Kusai Sándor, former Beijing Ambassador of Hungary for 6 years, who is the most competent China expert in the country. The host of the event will be Mohr Richárd, Hungarian director of SZTE Confucius Institute.

 

The upcoming topics will be about the Hungarian - Chinese relations, Chinese culture and how also about how do Europeans think of this country.

 

According to the Institute, each month a Tea House will be organized, and the main aim of the event is to get to know and learn more about China while tasting Chinese tea. Later on, well-known scholars will be invited in order to learn more about China, about its traditions, the secret of its development and the people itself.



Movie Night on 13 January from 5 p.m. in SZTE Confucius Institute!


a-zold-sarkany-gyermekeiOn 13 January 2015, guests are kindly invited to join the newest movie night from 5 p.m. organized by SZTE Confucius Institute. This time a Hungarian-Chinese film drama will be introduced.



The main character of the story is an estate-agent, named Máté János. He is not enthusiastic about his job, freshly divorced, and last but not least, he has a panic disorder. He is charged with a new job, which is about selling a warehouse as soon as possible. The task is not that easy since the warehouse, which is filled with thousands of parcels, is rented by Chinese. Yu Denbin, also main character, takes not only good care of the warehouse, but also lives there.

A special bond, friendship develops between the two lone men. But, the task of Yu is to avoid selling the warehouse. If he does so, he gets back his passport, which was taken away because of a debt, and would be able to return and start a new life in China. Meanwhile, Máté gets an ultimate from his boss as well: sell the house, or lose his job. So, soonly, the two friends try to sabotage each other’s job. Máté must decide: to become unemployed or to lose a friend by selling the warehouse.

The film is about a young sportsman with special physical characteristics who travels from China to the United States to play basketball in NBA. Despite of the enormous interest and attention towards him, his career did not start that smoothly. However, the peak of his professional sport career was between 2002 and 2011. The film rises those difficulties what Yao had to face at the very beginning of his career far from his homeland with different culture and traditions.

Chinese games - Mahjong night

Mahjong is also called as Chinese domino, even if the rules are considered to be more of a kind of card game (Rummy). Till the beginning of the 20th century (to be more precise, until the fall of the Empire in 1912) this game was played only in the Emperors Palaces. After the fall of the Emperor it has spread all over the country and later it has conquered the world.

Chinese knots

Chinese knots existed from the Tang and Song dynasties, which were more than a thousand years ago, and still, it is quite popular in China. The most characteristic features of Chinese knots are:


symmetrical, double braided and usually red colored knots. These are not only used as decorations, but also to wish good luck, prosperity and happiness.

Are you interested in Chinese ink painting? Now, you can learn how to use Chinese ink brush, you can find out how it is possible to paint wonderful Chinese landscapes with only some simple brush strokes, and also, how to paint cute pandas with the help of teacher Wang Xiaolin. The guests will not only learn the techniques of brush painting, but also they will appreciate and recognize the masterpieces of quality Chinese ink painting.

Chinese New Year comes at the end of January 2014, which will be the year of the horse. On the occasion of this event, the Spring Festival will be held second time at Millenáris Park in Budapest.


This year again, the SZTE Confucius Institute welcomes guests with exciting programs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Spring Festival, which is organized by the Centre of Chinese Culture and Arts and Prime Time Communications. The participants will be able to learn how to paint the signs of their own Zodiacs or how to paint cute pandas only with some simple brush strokes, also, they will be capable of making Beijing Opera masks, guests can participate in Chinese Lantern Quiz Games too, and last but not least, due to last year’s great success, visitors who want to feel the “Chinese way of felling” can slip into traditional Chinese costumes :)


The cherry on top of the cake will be the music performance of Henan music band at 7 p.m.

As part of the Autumn Cultural Festival of the University of Szeged our Confucius Institute organizes a three-session free taiji training. The training is held by our teachers.



Everyone is welcome!

 

Taiji is a harmonious sport that moves the whole body, has a beneficial effect on both the body and the soul and hence on physical and mental health. Taiji may be pursued by both young and elderly people, it does not harm joints and at the same time improves stamina, makes muscles more flexible. What is more, taiji also reduces symptoms of work stress! We sincerely recommend it for everyone!

 

Chinese paper-cutting – Master your paper-cutting skill with us!

At the beginning of the Chinese new year, Chinese people decorate their doors and windows with beautiful paper-cuts to honour the forthcoming spring and bring some vivid happiness to their homes after winter. Depending on the patience and the secure hand of the paper-cutter the form may be very simple or somewhat more complex, its theme may vary from flowers, birds, insects, fish, animal to a personality of Chinese literature or a character of the famous Beijing Opera.

Within the Autumn Cultural Festival in October, everyone has the opportunity to try this noble Chinese form of art at the Confucius Institute at University of Szeged!

中国电影之夜:《将爱》

All visitors are welcome to watch the movie version, a sequel to one of the most successful Chinese television series!

Eternal Moment is a Chinese romantic drama film directed by Zhang Yibai and starring Xu Jinglei, Li Yapeng and Chapman To. The film is a sequel to the television drama, Cherish Our Love Forever (1998), which was also directed by Zhang. The film follows the two leads from that earlier drama (played by Xu Jinglei and Li Yapeng) reuniting after being apart for 12 years.

The movie is played in Chinese with English subtitles!

Dates: 8, 15, 22 and 29 May

Time: 5:00 – 5:45 p.m.

Place: Dugonics Square (in front of the main building of the university)

Total price of the course: 5000 HUF


Based on considerable interest by our visitors, the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged organizes a 4-session taiji course. Trainings will be held by the Chinese Director of our Institute, Zhang Xuemei.

All are welcome!

The tuition fee of the course must be paid individually by a yellow postal cheque (to be picked up at the Reception of the Institute, Rector’s Office Ground floor 13, Mon to Thu 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Fri 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.). Previous registration for the course is obligatory!

Only those can attend the course who are registered and proved the payment of the tuition fee!

Within the Day of Szeged event series the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged welcomes visitors interested in Chinese culture by an exhibition. The theme of the exhibition is Confucius, a famous Chinese philosopher (B.C. 551-479), after whom the institute is named and whose teachings determine Chinese way of thinking and behaviour up to present days.

The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of Rector’s Office.

The University of Szeged Klebelsberg Library organizes a library afternoon focusing on China, Chinese history and culture. Our Institute, as the official cultural institution of the People’s Republic of China presents some exciting programs for participants: you can get an insight into calligraphy, attend a traditional Chinese tea ritual, taste the most delicious varieties of Chinese tea, dress up in traditional Chinese clothes and pose for a photo taken by our professional photographer.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged organizes a talent show in April for all their Chinese learners. This is an excellent opportunity to show us your talent in a variety of Chinese genres like reciting a poem, singing Chinese hits, perform a fan dance or recite Chinese rhymes accompanied by a kuaiban (Chinese rhythmic instrument). Apply for the show today and fill in the registration form (it can be picked up at the Reception of the Institute)! Do not worry about anything, our teachers are more than happy to assist you to prepare for the show successfully! Do not miss this opportunity, be the next Hungarian star in China!*


Performances are going to be evaluated by our invited jury members. The winner of the contest will be awarded by a valuable present.
